Creating a SCHOOLDUDE Ticket

Please create a SCHOOLDUDE ticket anytime you need IT help.  It is the quickest way to ensure your request will handled.

Go to any WS/FCS page and click on User Options, then SCHOOLDUDE Requests. If you are at school you will not be asked for any login information.  If you are not at school you will be asked for your username and password.  Both are the same as when you login to a school computer.
2

Once you are in SCHOOLDUDE make sure you click on IT Request. If you do not click IT Request your ticket will be submitted through maintenance and will most likely be closed without being looked at.

3

Once you have clicked on IT Request (Note that the screen changed a bit), pick Wiley Middle from the drop down and type in your Area/Room Number. The Area dropdown is not active.

4

Choose the IT Problem Type (If your issue is not there, pick something that is as close as possible).

6

Type in your problem and be as specific as possible.

7

You may see some additional boxes appear depending on your problem.  Fill in those as best as you can.

8

Give the time(s) you are available.  If you don’t mind someone coming in your room while you are teaching put ‘Anytime’, if you have a specific time, put that.

If you have any attachments, attach those now. For instance, if you are getting a pop-up you can take a screenshot of it and attach it so I can see what’s going on.

Click Submit and you are done! You should get an email when you submit the ticket and one when it is complete.

9

You can always check on the status of your open tickets by clicking on My Requests.

10

If you ever receive an email that looks like this please reply to it by clicking on the link.  It means I need more information to complete your request.

11

Type your response in the space provided and click Post Response.

Student Email, User Accounts, RUA, SchoolDude

Many accounts need Internet Explorer 9 or higher

  • If something is not working check which IE version you have and update if necessary
  • Chrome and Firefox usually work well, also
  • WordPress and OneDrive are 2 that you might need to update for

Student Email/User accounts

  • First 4 of first name + first 4 of last name + last 4 of student number @wsfcsstudents.net
  • Hyphenated names use the 2nd name
  • Apostrophes are not included
  • Only use your school email to correspond with students/parents
    • Always use your professional judgment when corresponding with students
  • Watch for email addresses that could be problematic for students
  • Talk with students and let them know we have the capability to see all emails they send/receive
  • Students must log onto a computer before their email will work – password is 12345678 (student must change upon first login)
  • Student’s computer and Email/Office 365 passwords are the same
  • If a student gets locked out, it will unlock in 15 mins (If they need their password changed please put in a ticket)
  • Encourage students to remember their passwords (It most likely won’t get reset immediately if they do)
  • Have a discussion with students about password security
  • I can get lists of student emails, the most I can sort is by grade (You may be able to get a list in PowerTeacher of your classes)
  • Students must use their account when on a school computer

Make sure you log off/lock your computer whenever you are not there (Email, schooldude, etc. automatically sign on under your account)

Make sure you are following Mr. Gaillard’s blog (I sent out an email with directions, let me know if you need help)

  • You can follow my blog, too, it’s on wordpress (tklandreth.wordpress.com)
  • I will post there whenever I have information to share

I will be changing the user564 password (Please don’t share the password with students)

  • I will let everyone know when I do
  • Please don’t write it on the board

Home folders will be here this year (Try to start to using OneDrive. )

  • You can set up folders in OneDrive for students to share documents with you (It’s time consuming at first, but worth it)
  • There will be a training soon for those who want to learn more
  • When working with documents, if you ‘edit online’ you have less trouble with versions that aren’t the same

Students can download office for free at home on up to 5 devices! (We can download it for $10)

Responsible Use Agreement (RUA)

  • Will go home with student in Wednesday packets
  • Please encourage students to bring them back ASAP
  • Last year’s agreement is good until Sept. 5th, after that date students must have the new RUA in to use school computers/internet
  • Please keep a record of students who turn/do not turn them in
  • The RUA states that teachers can make accounts for students, but you must have their usernames/passwords in your records
  • The RUA and states that students are responsible for their own devices at school
  • Students must use guest wireless while at school (Not their own 3G/4G)

SchoolDude

  • You received an email from central office with screenshots on how to put in a ticket (PIAT)
  • The first tab is for maintenance requests. (Those go to Mrs. Crayton)
  • The second tab is for IT requests. (Those go to Mrs. Landreth)
  • Please put in all maintenance and IT requests in Schooldude. (It is the best way to ensure your request gets done as soon as possible. When you PIAT we get an email notifying us.)
  • You can check the progress anytime
  • You may get an email asking for more information (Please make sure you respond)
  • You will get an email when your request is complete.

Technology Introduction (From August 13th)

Tracy Landrethtklandreth@wsfcs.k12.nc.us

Technology Facilitator

My space is in the back of the media center It consists of my work space and a mini lab. The lab will be used for:

  • Teacher trainings (I can come to you or you can come to me.)
  • Small student groups (Talk with me about pulling a small group of students.)
  • And such…

To get in contact with me you can:

  • Call my extension
  • Email me
  • Put in a ticket (PIAT)
  • Call the office

Don’t forget to complete the technology survey I sent out

  • It will help me to get to know your technology needs and give me an idea of who I need to get to first

I will be visiting classrooms next week to help set up technology

  • If you think of anything you need you can always email me or have questions ready
  • Please don’t put away technology in your room. If you have something you don’t want there is someone else that could use it.

I will be getting teacher laptops out next week

  • Make sure I take your name down if you need one

Apps/programs you need to get through the year (If you need help with any of them I will be here to help.)

  • Remind, WordPress, OneDrive, Twitter, your Outlook calendar, Schooldude, QR codes

A few quick fixes

  • Printer not printing?
    • Try turning it off/unplugging it, then turning it back on. Sometimes it just needs a refresh
  • Laptop not seeing wireless?
    • Look on the front of the laptop, there should be a little switch towards the left hand side. Make sure it is slid to the right (You should see green)
    • Try a gpupdate: Plug an Ethernet cord into laptop, then go to run in the start menu, type gpupdate /force /boot then hit enter.(It must be typed exactly as I have it here, with the spaces) It will ask you to log off. Hit ‘y’ for yes
  • Desktop not getting an internet connection?
    • Make sure the Ethernet cable is plugged into the wall and the back of the desktop. You should see blinking lights in the back where the cable is plugged in.
  • Computer just acting a little crazy? (Not seeing what it’s supposed to, getting funky messages, ect…)
    • Trying restarting it

A few important notes

  • SAY NO TO TOOLBARS
    • This is for students and teachers. Toolbars are unnecessary and can cause problems with certain programs. They can also take up needed space on the monitor.
  • Please take care of the computer lab
    • Clean up any trash, check before and after every class to make sure everything is in working order.
    • If you see anything that needs to be fixed please log it on the ‘Computer Lab Repairs’ sheet.
    • Make sure students understand the expectations while in the lab before you go in.
  • Know your computer number
    • If something happens to your computer you need to know your computer number. It starts with M564…
  • Make sure your Internet security is up-to-date
    • If you see a little orange box in the lower right hand corner of your screen click it, open it, and click ‘Update’.
